Boulder Entrepreneur Trent R. Hein of Rule4 Wins Coveted CTA APEX Award
At the Nov. 6, 2019, APEX Awards ceremony, Trent R. Hein was presented with the Colorado Entrepreneur Excellence Award from the Colorado Technology Association.
A serial entrepreneur, Hein is passionate about building businesses that have a positive impact on employees, clients, the community, and the world. He is recognized as one of the world’s leading experts in infrastructure cybersecurity and automation, and he has successfully co-founded multiple consulting services companies — all in Boulder.
In 1991, Trent co-founded and served as CTO of XOR Inc. (now part of FICO), which grew to 550 employees at its peak in 2001. After a successful exit, Trent co-founded and served as Co-CEO of AppliedTrust, a provider of IT security and network/systems infrastructure consulting services that grew to over 60 Colorado-based employees before being acquired by Colorado legend ViaWest in 2015. Under Trent’s leadership, AppliedTrust was recognized on the Inc. 5000 list multiple years, and received a Colorado Technology Association Apex Award.
His latest company, Rule4, provides cybersecurity and emerging technology expertise to organizations of all sizes and shapes, with a focus on mission-driven organizations. Under Trent's leadership, the company has doubled in size and earned over $1.5 million in revenue since its launch in Sept. 2018.
Trent hosts the DevOps Boulder meetup, now well over 1,000 members, and serves on the board of Harvest of Hope Pantry. He is a co-author of the Linux and Unix Administration Handbook, currently in its fifth edition.
