Event Description:STORYTELLING FOR FILM, TV, VERTICALS, & BRANDED CONTENT
What does it take to lift your “brilliant” idea from something mumbled in the shower or pounded onto your Notes app and into a fully realized concept (perhaps even script) that just might have a shot at being considered compelling? What does it take to get producers, managers, fellow writers, elevator companions, power-brokers, A-listers that you emulate, Albert Brooks, Spike Jonze, the ghost of Rod Serling (Google them for chrissakes!), and even yourself into muttering, “Damn, I’d invest two hours in that”?
Whether you’re floating those considerations or not, Tim is ready to answer them. Using talks, clips, structure, samples, film/tv history, best practices, anecdotes, discussion, and a few uncanny dialects, Tim will–at the bare minimum-help you walk away knowing what puts butts in seats (and anywhere else butts consume content these days). This class is about taking the quirky, clueless, cloudy, hungover, cynical passion you have and converting it into productivity and creative fulfillment. And it’s also a shitload of fun, proclaimed Tim.
And, if you don’t make it that far, at least you’ll be a firsthand witness to others doing it right in front of your eyes. And that experience alone is worth its weight in gold (statuettes).
Instructor's Bio
Tim Roper is a mult-award winning Writer-Director with a diverse mix of experience in both filmmaking and brand building. After graduating with a Film Degree from The University of Texas at Austin, Tim began a 30+ year career writing, directing and creative directing tons of irresistible content far too long to list here. In 2016, Tim founded F. Yeah & Associates LLC (f-yeah.com) –a live action “content engine” that offers hands-on storytelling solutions to whoever the hell is willing to listen and pay for it. As one of the few road-tested hyphenates in his business, Tim’s (and his collaborators’) work has been honored at Cannes, Museum of Modern Art, The Emmys, The One Club, over 30 film festivals worldwide and has been featured on The Super Bowl and profiled on (the soon-to-be-dead) 60 Minutes. In 2019, Tim joined collaborators Marc Bennett and Lisa Effress (whom he adores) to begin Writing, Co-Directing and Narrating the feature documentary For the Living (2024) (forthelivingmovie.com) as a cautionary tale for the moment we’re all living through right now. The battle between the two extremes of human nature: Dehumanization and Empathy. Tim asserts that this film is not merely about The Holocaust or any genocide. For the Living is about each and every one of us. And, ultimately, which “road” we choose to follow. Please note: There will be an approximate one hour break for lunch.
