Job Announcement - Director of Development
Founded in 1983, Impact on Education is the Foundation supporting all Boulder Valley public schools. Our wide-ranging programs drive innovation and foster excellence throughout the Boulder Valley School District (BVSD), impacting over 31,000 local students and 4,000 educators each school year. Our focus is to build support for public education; provide opportunities for all students and help them overcome barriers; and help BVSD evolve, innovate, and bring best practices to our schools. We strive to address inequity, increase student achievement, and foster excellence in instruction.
Impact on Education is seeking an experienced and results-driven Director of Development, reporting to the Executive Director. As a key member of the Impact on Education executive leadership team, this position is responsible for developing the strategy behind our growing fundraising efforts, for overseeing the implementation of that strategy, and for developing relationships with key supporters. The Director of Development will work with the Board of Directors, Development Committee, and Executive Director to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major and annual fund contributions from individuals, corporations, foundations, and organizations.
The Development Director will take the lead to ensure the successful diversification of the organization’s funding through personal solicitations, direct mail, grant proposals, and special events. This position affords the right candidate the unique opportunity to take a leadership role in all aspects of the organization’s philanthropic efforts.
Impact on Education’s leadership team has ambitious goals for the Foundation, planning to double revenue within the next three to five years, in addition to growing its already healthy endowment and reserves. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to direct that transformation and will work collaboratively with the Executive Director and Board of Directors, as well as the Community Engagement Manager, contract grant writer, and administrative staff to provide outstanding opportunities for donors to be a part of the work we do.
Key Required Experience
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in fundraising with a proven track record of meeting or exceeding targets
  • Proven strategic thinker with experience in creating strategy to grow an integrated fundraising program
  • Experience cultivating individuals, corporations, and foundations with major gift potential and a track-record of success in soliciting major gifts
  • Ability to communicate, inspire, and engage high net-worth individuals, community leaders, and foundation funders
  • Knowledge and experience in fundraising techniques including face-to-face solicitation, direct mail, special events, grant writing, and online solicitation
Desired Skills and Abilities
  • A well-organized planner with an interest in long-term sustainability and results
  • A task-oriented do-er who takes initiative and works efficiently
  • Excellent leadership, team building, and communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships with a variety of individuals
  • Local fundraising experience desired but not required
