Job Description
The Learning for Living Institute® is one of the few nationally oriented nonprofits dedicated to creating and facilitating cutting-edge Life Success Skills Programs for college-age young adults. Located in downtown Boulder, The Learning for Living Institute® is a fast-growing organization composed of a dedicated group of eight to ten collaborative employees and independent contractors.

The Chief Executive Officer works under the leadership of the Founder/Executive Director at Learning for Living® to carry out the mission and vision of the organization. He/she maintains oversight of the daily tasks needed to build all aspects of the organization, establishes priorities, implements procedures, sets timelines, tracks accountability, and defines budget to achieve growing impact for this cutting-edge nonprofit.
 
YOUR PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES WILL UNFOLD ORGANICALLY IN THREE PHASES AND WILL INCLUDE:
 
PHASE ONE
  • OVERSIGHT OF FINANCES
Working with the Executive Director, you will prepare an annual budget to support the organization’s goals and strategic plan, oversee the bookkeeping and cash flow and report on all bi-weekly procedures to the Executive Director.
 
  • OVERSIGHT OF INFORMATION SYSTEMS
Working with the Executive Director, you will manage the creation and building out of the Learning for Living® cloud, SharePoint, and paper information systems to provide backup for the Life Skills programs at Learning for Living®.  You will recommend technological improvements and develop new applications for this growing system.
 
  • OVERSIGHT OF HUMAN RESOURCES
You will prepare job descriptions, place ads, and train new support staff, outreach and development employees and independent contractors who develop curriculum, create a manual describing our teaching methodology, and facilitate our Facilitator Training and student Life Skills programs.
 
PHASE TWO
  • Working with the Executive Director, you will set up the “backroom practices” for the Outreach and Development Departments. This will include management of the creation of our new website and printed outreach material, as well as a strategic plan for fundraising, recommendations for a donor database, and providing initial donor messaging and contacts.
 
PHASE THREE
  • You will participate in building Learning for Living® program offerings, and developing policies and procedures to ensure the smooth operation, customization, and quality of each Life Skills program.

  • Dedication to the vision and the mission of The Learning for Living Institute®
  • The ability to funnel down from the visionary goals to the day-to-day tasks, strategize to identify solutions, organize, coordinate, sequence, simplify, and thoroughly operationalize need objectives
  • The ability to follow the procedures previously established at Learning for Living®, yet demonstrate flexibility when change is needed
  • The ability to foresee results, act, evaluate, make improvements and plan for what is needed next
  • Proficiency with computers, software, cloud storage, and most office machines
  • The ability to enjoy and work effectively with different types of people, give clear, doable instructions on how to complete a task and to follow through with support and feedback
  • The ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team, orchestrating effective and sequential work procedures, and assign the right task to the right person to accomplish projects needed to fulfill the Learning for Living® mission
  • The capacity to connect with individuals and organizations outside Learning for Living® and inspire them to engage with our unique vision and contribute to our long-range mission
In these ways, you contribute the effort and expertise which is needed to serve Learning for Living® students, sponsors, college administrators, and parents in the best possible way.

EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s degree or above
  • 10-15 years’ management and supervisory experience
    • 5-10 years’ experience working with educational non-profits, preferably in the field of higher education
