Boulder, CO, January 29, 2018. The Boulder Chamber is pleased to announce the honorees for the 2018 Celebration of Leadership, to be held March 7, 2018, at the Dairy Arts Center in Boulder, CO.

Doyle Albee, president and CEO of MAPRagency, will receive the Community Impact Award for his pioneering strategies and techniques within the world of public relations, but even more relevantly, his personification of the “give first” philosophy that is the secret sauce of Boulder’s leadership as a startup community. Doyle dedicates his personal time to a dizzying array of business community support activities ranging from his many years of hosting both Denver and Boulder Open Coffee clubs, sponsorship, presentation and support of events like Boulder Startup Week and SheSays Boulder, and a voluminous list of mentorship and advisory activities with organizations as varied as the Boomtown Accelerator, Boulder Bits startup studio, the University of Colorado and more.

Sharon Matusik, Dean of the Leeds School of Business at University of Colorado Boulder, will be receiving the Rising Star Award for the direction she is setting for the LEEDs school and the impressive strides she has already made in the short amount of time since being appointed. Matusik has led the effort to increase the Leeds School's interface and engagement with the Boulder entrepreneurial community. She has also championed the effort to recruit women and minorities for both the faculty and the student body at Leeds.

Black Lab Sports and Terrapin Care Station will both be honored as Innovative Companies of the Year.
Black Lab Sports is an ecosystem and a platform that invests in, launches, and scales companies whose founders live their purpose and who focus on improving human performance. The company stands on the belief of “unleashing greatness" within all they do. Their original warehouse has been converted into an entrepreneurial space, a sports performance laboratory, an art studio, a sculpture study, and a non-profit for young interns to learn how to start and run a business. JP O’Brien, CEO of Black Lab Sports, will be accepting the award.

Terrapin Care Station has a proven track record as a leader for corporate responsibility in the growing cannabis industry. Over the seven years since Terrapin Care Station has been operational, the company has contributed more than $250,000 to community events, nonprofits, and advocacy organizations, with many of these community events, nonprofits, and advocacy organizations being local to Boulder. TCS has also committed to starting a global opioid epidemic awareness campaign. In an industry facing constant scrutiny, community engagement is particularly valuable as a way to prove the positive public impacts this industry has the ability to provide, with TCS leading the way. Chris Woods, Owner and CEO of Terrapin Care Station, will be accepting the award.

Scott Green, Site Director at Google Boulder, will be receiving the Virginia Patterson Business Person of the Year Award. Under Scott's leadership, Google Boulder has strived to work with community leaders and partners to be a good corporate citizen and positive contributor to the city. Last year alone, Google Boulder employees committed nearly 5,000 hours to local organizations like the Boulder Homeless Shelter, Flatirons Habitat for Humanity and Wish for Wheels. Employees also host many student groups, encouraging them to consider STEM careers. Under his direction, Google has invested $41.7 million in state-issued bonds to develop affordable housing in Boulder, a project that created more than 230 permanently affordable apartments -- one of the largest public-private affordable housing deals in Boulder County history. Though the list of his contributions is extensive, the example Green has set for his team -- and for other businesses ---is a model of actions speaking louder than words.

Steve Bosley, Founder of the BolderBOULDER, will be the recipient of the Franny Reich Lifetime Achievement Award. In addition to an illustrious career in banking, outstanding contributions over several years to the University of Colorado and a lifetime of service to Boulder County and the State of Colorado, Bosley found the time to merge his running and fitness enthusiasm with his entrepreneurial passion to create the world-renowned BolderBOULDER 10K road race. This race has been a Memorial Day weekend tradition now celebrating 40 years and draws in more than 50,000 amateur and professional runners from around the globe, as well as an estimated 50,000 spectators.

“We are very excited to honor each of these individuals during the 2018 Celebration of Leadership,” said John Tayer, President and CEO of Boulder Chamber. “Each of them has been instrumental in shaping the character and success of Boulder’s business community. We are honored to recognize their achievements and positive impact.”

The 2018 Celebration of Leadership will take place on Thursday, March 7, from 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. at the Dairy Arts Center in Boulder, Colorado. For more information and to purchase tickets, please visit boulderchamber.com/2018celebration.
